Contemporary dance is a combination of techniques and styles including Ballet, Modern and Jazz. It can at times combine other dance styles such as African dance. It often focuses on characters or explores cultural events and stories. It was developed during the mid-twenty century by dance pioneers such as Isadora Duncan, Loïe Fuller and Martha Graham. Some of the techniques are still studied today.
Our classes focus on various techniques and we work through lots of improvisation tasks so students can develop their choreographic skills. We have three contemporary competition teams, which students that take contemporary are given the opportunity to audition to be a part of these.
